Supernatural Characters - Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, and Castiel

Dean Winchester

"I swear, if you ever tell dad I told you any of this Sam, I will end you." "Promise." "First thing you have to know is...we have the coolest dad in the world. He's a superhero." "He is?" "Yeah. Supernatural Monsters are real. Dad fights em. He's fighting them right now." This is a conversation between young Sam and Dean.

This is just an example of the man that Dean Winchester is. He’s the older brother that would do anything and more for his little, Sam Winchester. Dean Winchester is a man who is both understanding and funny. He tends to get into more mischief than Sam Winchester, because he’s the type of guy who likes to shoot first and ask questions later. When you compare the two, Dean Winchester seems to be more immature of the brothers, but he has always been trained to keep an eye on Sam Winchester. The only thing he’s better at doing is hunting down supernatural monsters that go bump in the night. He loves hunting down the supernatural and loves to do it with his brother Sam Winchester and best friend/Angel Castiel by his side. Dean Winchester loves rock music, rudimentary humour, sexual innuendoes, and of course pornography – specifically “big busty Asians”.

Sam Winchester

Castiel: [Castiel appears in the motel room] I got your message. It was long your message. I find the sound of your voice grating.
Sam Winchester: What's wrong with you?
[Castiel stands wobbly]
Sam Winchester: Are you... drunk?
Castiel: No! Yes.
Sam Winchester: What the hell happened to you?
Castiel: I found a liquor store.
Sam Winchester: And?
Castiel: And I drank it!

The above is a quote from the Supernatural series and a conversation between Sam Winchester and the angel Castiel. To give a demonstration of Sam Winchester, this works well – plus it’s funny. He’s very observant, he cares for people (when he has a soul), and he likes to try and help people. He is the younger brother of Dean Winchester and between Sam and Dean, with Castiel, they continue through the country fighting off supernatural monsters. Sam Winchester believes that to balance out the good there must be evil, so he was less surprised than Dean when the angels first came on the scene and they met Castiel. Sam Winchester loves his family before anything else, he is well read, intelligent, and well spoken. Where Dean Winchester loves to rush in and take charge, Sam Winchester enjoys learning about the enemy

Castiel The Angel Aka Jimmy Novac

“Well, you know me. I’m always happy to bleed for the Winchesters” This was said with the utmost snark that only Castiel seems to be capable of, and spoken to Sam and Dean Winchester.

Castiel is an angel that came down and took over the vessel of Jimmy Novac, a devoted religious man with a family. Since he’s an angel, Castiel used to show little to no emotion for the human beings of earth, and had little room for feelings of his own. When he meets Sam and Dean, he begins to develop empathy and affections for the brothers but grows especially close to Dean Winchester (I know I don’t have to tell all you Destial fans!). Castiel eventually ends up rebelling against the angels to side with Sam and Dean in a battle with the apocalypse; this leads his superiors to kicking him out of heaven. This leaves him with little to no angelic powers, for a time being. He often doesn’t understand how to interact with humans and is completely confused by social norms and finer human interactions. His alliance has and seems to always be, with the supernatural hunters, Sam and Dean.

Supernatural: Top 3 Funniest Episodes

3. Supernatural Episode: Bad Day At Black Rock Episode
Main Characters Involved: Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester

In this episode, it involves, two thieves, two brothers (Sam and Dean), and a lucky rabbits foot. In this episode the boys are faced with having to find the men responsible for robbing their fathers storage unit. Only one thing is stolen and that’s a Supernatural Rabbit’s Foot. Sam and Dean find the culprits and soon learn there is more to this lucky rabbit’s foot than meets the eye. It brings the holder unbelievable amounts of luck, but the moment they lose the foot, it brings horrible luck and most certain death. Which Sam and Dean seem to learn all on their own.

This episode is one of the funniest Supernatural episodes to date. Some of the best lines and funniest scenes take place. The loss and gains of the supernatural rabbit’s foot leads to plenty of humorous moments that have us laughing even at the misfortune of some. One of the funniest scenes is when Dean Winchester touches the foot and ends up saving Sam Winchester from the holy hunter in the nick of time, and does so by throwing a pen (luckily) right into the barrel of his gun and finishing it off with “I’m Batman!”

2. Supernatural Episode: The End Episode
Main Characters Involved: Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester, Castiel.

This episode involves Dean Winchester seeing five years into the future after the apocalypse and Sam Winchester giving his body up for Lucifer’s use. Apart from the apocalypse having destroyed the world, it also shows that a supernatural virus called Croatoan has infected everyone. Sam Winchester is no longer the man we know as Lucifer has complete control of him, Dean Winchester has an army camp and a small village that he runs, and Castiel is no longer the loving angel we all know – but merely a human, with very human addictions.
This episode is funny for only two reasons, but very good reasons. The reaction that Dean Winchester has to his future self (what an asshole) and also being able to see Castiel as a human with his human addictions. He smokes pot, pops pills, drinks absinthe (and many other hallucinogens), and let up not forget his hippy loving orgies. It makes for some very humorous interactions and scenes. Not to mention seeing Castiel in regular human clothes, thinking about human things, is hilarious.

Supernatural Episode: Mystery Spot
Main Characters: Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester
It seems there is a disappearance that Sam and Dean believe to be Supernatural. This leaves them eager to investigate and rid the supernatural entity, but they get much more than they bargained for when Dean Winchester is shot and killed right in front of Sam Winchester. Only to – wait a minute – that’s right, wake up the next day and have it start all over again.

This episode might just be the funniest episode that Supernatural has released to date. It is a perfect blend of horrific views and hilarious comedy. Dean Winchester unknowingly dies over and over again, leaving Sam Winchester to relive (and remember) Tuesday over and over. It doesn’t matter what he does, if he prevents death one way, Dean Winchester is killed another. It is continual and leads to some hilarious causes of death for the loving Dean Winchester. Sam and Dean must face deaths such as (a piano on the head, a fall in the shower, and of course least we forget – chocking on his breakfast).

Sam and Dean Winchester's Relationship - The Brothers

Throughout the Supernatural series, Sam and Dean Winchester have managed to have their relationship (and fans) on a constant roller coaster ride. From the very beginning of the show, things started off rocky – which of course was expected since Sam Winchester left the family to attend Stanford (really, what was he thinking?). The blow that Sam would do that to the family instead of hunting Supernatural creatures with his brother Dean Winchester and father John Winchester was something that clearly was not forgiven easily – though it was forgiven.

So, over the years (eleven seasons strong) Sam and Dean have had their fair share of arguments and disputes, but the one thing that has always stayed strong is the brotherly love they have had for each other. Sam and Dean, each one of them so willing to risk their lives and kill – or be killed – for the other brother. It seems nothing – not even death (yes himself) can tear Sam and Dean apart. They show that the love of family is stronger than anything Supernatural.

Now, let’s get back onto what’s happening with the Winchester brothers right now. It seems this season is the season that is truly putting their relationship to the ultimate tests. Dean Winchester has now taken it upon himself to gain The Mark Of Caine. Of course it was Crowley who suggested this, leaving anything Castiel, the angel friend of the brothers thought about this.  This has Dean Winchester angry and far too powerful. There’s clearly something going on inside of him that has yet to be unleashed on us (the fans) yet, but it makes you both eager and scared to think of what that outcome might be.

He’s not the steady older brother Dean Winchester, that little Sammy (Sam Winchester) has looked up to all these years and depending on. Through past seasons of Supernatural, we’ve seen Sam Winchester being the most obvious one in a downward spiral (between being soulless and habit of keeping too many secrets to himself) it’s always Dean Winchester that has been dependable. This seems to be shifting, as Sam and Dean will switch places now that Dean Winchester has been marked by Caine and seems less like the man we all know who carries humanity and compassion within his heart.

This has Sam Winchester taking the former role that Dean Winchester had. Where his older brother will need him to be the one with humility and compassion in his heart, because it seems Dean Winchester no longer holds those character traits with this mark and has now become more cut and dry. We can only see if Sam Winchester can live up to the task of saving his brother – Dean Winchester – who has always been there to save him through hell or high heaven. Only time will tell if Sam and Dean will keep the relationship we all know and love.
